Emergency alerts to remind subscribers?

In an interview with CNN Philippines, NTC deputy commissioner Jon Paulo Salvahan said they do not agree with the use of emergency alerts to remind users to comply with the mandatory SIM registration.

No, we do not encourage the telcos, Salvahan said.

Prior to the supposed April 26 deadline, Globe users received a reminder to register their SIM via an emergency alert.

Many criticized the move as this, they said, caused unnecessary panic.

Globe issued a statement on Monday defending its move. The telco said this was to "instill urgency" in its customers.

Moreover, the move was approved by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Globe noted.

There were also no objections from the NDRRMC, it noted.

Salvahan said the commission did not give clearance to the issuance of emergency alerts. The matter has been forwarded to the NTC’s technical team, he added.

The official said they are just waiting for the technical team’s recommendation to know how they will proceed with the matter.

What do you think about this?
