Android KitKat Google Play Services officially ends on August 2023!

Android 4.4 or also known as KitKat has been existing since 2013. Now the support for its Google Play Services will end by August 2023.

Goodbye Android KitKat!

Around May 2023 there's a report of about 15 million devices that are still using Android 4.4. While the most popular version was Android 11 with the most widely available release of Android.

However, KitKat phones were only about 0.5 percent of the global share. Since it's a low percentage, Google decided to move forward and call it quits for that.

Based on Android Developers Blog, Google will no longer support KitKat-powered devices in future releases of Google Play services. Google also mentioned that the active device count is now below 1 percent so it's fairly enough to move on.

So if you're still using one of the devices with that OS version. The end of support for it could be a good reason for you to upgrade.

After all losing support on updated apps may cause your experience to be buggy. While old devices won't be able to log in to their Google Account which is vital for every phone.
