Dimensity 9300 throttles by 46 percent under stress test!

To recall, the Taiwanese chipmaker's latest flagship processor had a different CPU design. It uses all performance cores and removes the usage of efficiency cores (low-powered).

The newly announced vivo X100 is equipped with the Dimensity 9300 and uses an advanced cooling solution to keep the phone's temperature in check. However, despite such preparations and having 4nm lithography, the performance of the processor still throttled by 46 percent in a stress test done by an X (Twitter) user Sahil Karoul.

While the CPU design can surpass its competitors in terms of peak performance, the lack of efficient cores has increased power draw. This also will result in generating heat thus a reason for the throttling to occur.

Sahil Karoul demonstrated that the chip will immediately throttle in just 2 minutes when running the CPU throttling test.

If you don't know yet, the test benchmark loads the Dimensity 9300's eights with up to 100 threads and evaluates the performance.

Taking a look at the graph, one of the core's clock speeds goes down to 0.60GHz while the remaining cores are slowed down to a frequency of 1.20GHz and 1.50GHz.

The chip's highest clock speed, set for the Cortex-X4, is 3.25GHz by default. The results show that running the stress test reduced the performance of the Dimensity 9300 by 46 percent.

Despite the fact that these tests indicate that MediaTek should not have chosen a CPU cluster with performance-only cores, the CPU Throttling Test was created to bring even the most thermally efficient chipsets to their knees. Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or A17 Pro may outperform, there are additional elements that influence how hot a smartphone chipset might get.

For example, the ambient temperature is higher in hot and humid environments than it is in most other places, which leads to a substantially faster thermal throttle on the Dimensity 9300. MediaTek's flagship SoC should function flawlessly in typical usage scenarios, but the Taiwanese company might want to reconsider its plan to employ a similar "performance-only" CPU cluster for the Dimensity 9400 next year.

What do you guys think?
