Meizu launches Note 22 and 22 Pro 5G, blatantly copying HUAWEI Mate designs

Meizu earlier launched two new mid-range smartphones for the international market called the Note 22 5G and Note 22 Pro 5G.

The resemblance at the back is uncanny. These two phones arrived in HUAWEI Mate Series inspired designs—the Mate X6 foldable for the Note 22 5G and Mate 70 for the Note 22 Pro 5G.

The new Meizu Note 22 5G is the handset that looks like the Mate X6 at the back. It uses a "rugged" design boasting SGS certification with a five-star rating for full-device drop protection, IP65 dust and water resistance, and a secure and stable grip, even if it has a large display. It is available in Pure Flame, Stonehold Black, and Snow White colorways.

In front, the phone highlights a 6.78-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ 2460 x 1080 resolution and up to 5,000 nits peak brightness. Inside, the handset is powered by the 6nm UNISOC T8200 5G chip with up to 2.3GHz clockspeed, Mali-G57 GPU, up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, and a large 6,600mAh battery with USB-C 40W fast charging. The company claims that this phone can last up to 15 hours of TikTok browsing.

The device also has a 50MP f/1.8 main camera paired with a 2MP f/2.4 DOF sensor at the back. For selfies, it uses an 8MP f/2.0 snapper.

Completing the specs, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 with LDAC support, GPS, and dual SIM slots. 

The handset measures 167.56 x 75.77 x 9.18 mm and weighs 216.9 grams.

Meanwhile, the Meizu M22 Pro 5G also sports a durable build boasting the Titan Shield Alloy Structure, the first with dust-proof, water-proof, and shock-proof certification from TÜV SÜD. This also has an IP66 and IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

The design is similar to the Mate 70 from HUAWEI on the back. It uses a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with up to 144Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz touch sampling rate, and crisp 2720 x 1224 resolution, and an In-Display fingerprint reader.

Inside, the device is powered by Qualcomm's 4nm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor with Adreno GPU, up to 16GB RAM, up to 512GB internal storage, and a 6,200mAh battery with USB-C 80W Super mCharged wired fast charging. According to the company, it can last up to 16 hours of TikTok and can be charged to 50 percent in just 22 minutes.

For cameras, it sports a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with PDAF focus paired with an 8MP f/2.2 15.43mm ultra-wide camera. For selfies, it has an 8MP f/2.05 snapper.

The device also has stereo speakers. dual-band WiFi 6, 5G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, and dual SIM slots.

Meizu also claims that it has been Certified Grade A by TÜV SÜD for 60 months of consistent and smooth performance. It also passed five-year smoothness tests by DreamSmart Lab.

The phones run with Flyme AIOS.

The new phones are now available in Russia, Spain, Malaysia, and Vietnam. But Meizu is planning to expand to 30+ countries in Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe.
