Invest in phones officially sold in PH

While smartphones sold in the grey market may be cheaper, you cannot really assure that they will not cause you any headaches. Units sold in this market were programmed to work only where they were originally sold.

To make sure that certain models only get sold where they are supposed to, manufacturers are placing a region lock. This includes OnePlus, which has China-exclusive units such as the Ace Series.

On a Reddit post, a user from the r/Tech_Philippines shared a screenshot showing a message that popped up on OnePlus Ace 5, which was being accessed outside China.

You're using a device that is sold only in China. Its communication functions will soon be restricted in your region, the pop-up message said.

The pop-up message means that the user will not be able to access the features of the device since, as we mentioned, is exclusive only to Chinese customers. While there are ways to unlock this, it will be a hassle since you still have to look for someone to do this and it is not really guaranteed that you will be able to use the device smoothly.

Aside from this risk, there are also other reasons why we do not recommend purchasing any device via the grey market. These include lack of official warranty, compatibility challenges, and potential legal Implications.

To save yourself from any harm, we strongly advise that you just purchase via official stores. That way, you are sure that the device will work in the country and that you will be able to enjoy appropriate customer benefits.
