A mighty successor to the Ear (2)?

The new model introduces several updates, with a focus on an enhanced microphone system housed in its charging case, a new integrated metal design, and upgraded audio drivers.

Nothing calls its headline feature the "Super Mic" system. It includes a dual-microphone array located in the charging case itself.

According to the firm, this setup is designed to filter ambient noise up to 95 dB to isolate the user's voice during calls. The system also allows for recording voice notes directly from the case, with transcription available in the companion Essential Space app.

For design, the Ear (3) incorporates polished metal components into the brand's signature transparent aesthetic.

A new thin Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) antenna is also included to improve signal strength and sensitivity. The charging case is constructed from 100 percent recycled aluminum.

Both the earbuds and case carry an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

For audio playback, the Ear (3) is fitted with an upgraded 12mm dynamic driver. Nothing states that a new patterned diaphragm design is intended to improve bass and treble response, thus producing a wider soundstage.

Each earbud is equipped with three microphones and a bone-conduction Voice Pick-up Unit (VPU) that detects vibrations from the jaw to enhance voice clarity.

The earbuds also use an AI-based noise cancellation system, trained on a large audio dataset, made to suppress wind and background noise during calls.

Furthermore, the audio device features real-time Adaptive Noise Cancellation, which can reduce ambient sound by up to 45 dB and automatically adjusts based on the user's environment and the fit of the earbuds.

The listed battery life is up to 10 hours of listening per earbud with ANC off, extending to 38 hours with the charging case. A 10-minute charge is stated to provide 10 hours of playback. The case supports both USB-C and wireless charging.

It connects via Bluetooth 5.4 with support for the LDAC codec. There's also a low-latency mode for gaming and video is included, with a reported end-to-end delay of under 120 milliseconds.
