Smart launches boosted 5G Standalone network in Iloilo City

Mobile arm of local telco giant PLDT, Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), launched its first Standalone 5G (SA) network in Iloilo City
Smart treated thousands of subscribers to a free concert at K-Town Festive Walk Parade last Aug 30 as it celebrated the launch of its 5G StandAlone (SA) network in Iloilo City. Also known as True 5G, 5G SA uses a dedicated 5G core network to deliver significantly lower latency, higher speeds, and increased capacity for customers.

The milestone event was marked by a jam-packed FREE concert that drew over 5,200 attendees to the K-Town Festive Walk Parade last August 30. 

To recap, 5G SA network—often referred to as True 5G—runs on a dedicated 5G core, enabling ultra-low latency, faster speeds, and greater data capacity. 

Basically, this next-generation technology paves the way for more advanced features and applications designed to enhance everyday digital experiences for users.

In addition to introducing its 5G SA network, Smart implemented major infrastructure upgrades to greatly enhance 5G coverage and capacity throughout Iloilo City.

During the event, Smart pulled out all the stops to highlight the real-world perks of its 5G SA network—aka True 5G. Attendees got a firsthand look at how this next-gen tech delivers superfast uploads and downloads, buffer-free streaming, and lag-free gaming.

Smart also rolled out special and exclusive offers for a wide range of 5G SA-ready devices from leading smartphone manufacturers, such as HONOR, OPPO, Samsung, vivo, and ZTE.

The theme of the event is "Sakses Ka Na!". It treated subscribers with a lineup of music and entertainment by homegrown bands Kreonz and First Edition, as well as rising Ilonggo beatmaker DJ Young and hit rap artist Flow G.

The event was also attended by noontime show host Jackie Gonzaga and veteran Ilonggo host Jordan Toledo.

The crowd also enjoyed exciting games and prizes.

Another Smart subscriber who braved the rains to join the event was Anne, who shared that she spends most of her time watching YouTube and sharing Instagram updates.

The 5G SA rollout in Iloilo City is the first in the country. It is a part of the company's nationwide effort to upgrade digital infrastructure.
