Will this beat Apple's A19 Series?

The company skipped the number 4 and went straight to the number 5 naming. The chipmaker explained that it is still the 5th gen among its number series, with the 8 Elite being considered as the 4th Gen.

The platform is named "Elite" to reflect its ranking within the product lineup. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is positioned as the highest-tier offering in the premium Snapdragon 8-series family. The previous generation introduced the Qualcomm Oryon CPU to the mobile portfolio, a custom architecture designed for the system-on-a-chip (SoC).

This integrated design approach is stated to allow for the optimizations required for high-speed performance and power efficiency.

The "Elite" designation is used for products the company identifies as its most advanced, with a focus on capability, user experience, and innovation. According to Qualcomm, the name represents a commitment to these standards.

The new 8 Elite Gen 5 features a highly sophisticated 3nm N3P process from Taiwan's TSMC and is expected to power several 2025 to 2026 flagship phones from different brands.

It is expected to feature a 4.6 to 4.74GHz clock speed with presumed Adreno 840 GPU naming.

Early benchmarks suggest it will have 4.2 to 4.4 million points in AnTuTu. As for GeekBench, it will have a 3,400 single-core performance and 11,000 multi-core. If the leaks turned out to be accurate, these numbers mean the new chipset will have around 58 percent improvement from the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Further rumors suggest it will have more advanced AI features and is expected to sport a more efficient power draw.

Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm is also reportedly going to introduce another high-end chip with model number SM8845. The upcoming SoC is believed to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Finally, the chipsets are expected to debut on September 23, 2025, at the Snapdragon Summit.
