New high-end processor to end the year

The company confirmed in a social media post that the chipset will be introduced on November 26 in China.

Positioned within Qualcomm's high-end product lineup, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is anticipated to be a high-performance chipset positioned just below the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

According to details confirmed by Qualcomm at a September event, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is manufactured on a 3-nanometer process and incorporates the company's custom Oryon CPU architecture. The chipset's prime core is configured at 3.8GHz, with performance cores operating at 3.32GHz.

Information regarding the graphics unit indicates the chipset will utilize an Adreno 840 GPU. This component is understood to share its foundational design with the GPU in the Elite variant, but operates at a clock speed of 1.2GHz.

Reported benchmark figures for the chipset include an AnTuTu score exceeding 3.3 million points. On Geekbench 6, it is said to achieve approximately 3,000 points in single-core testing and around 10,000 points in multi-core testing. For graphics performance, the chipset is reported to deliver about 100 frames per second on the Aztec 1440p benchmark.

Analysis of these figures suggests the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5's CPU performance is comparable to the previous generation's Snapdragon 8 Elite, with a minor reduction in GPU capabilities while still maintaining high-end performance characteristics.

OnePlus is scheduled to be the first manufacturer to implement the new chipset in the OnePlus Ace 6T, which is set to launch in November. Vivo has also confirmed its vivo S50 Pro Mini, expected in December, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Additionally, HONOR is reportedly preparing to launch a GT 2 smartphone equipped with the same processor, with a potential release window between December and January.
