Xiaomi's website even reads that it is designed to take more than just "ultra-clear" pictures as it can also be used for portraits, wide-angle, and macro shots.

But, can it really compete with a full-pledge mid-range phone? To check that out, we compared its cameras with the Galaxy A50s, a full-pledge mid-ranger priced at PHP 18,990.

Redmi Note 8 uses a 48MP f/1.8 Samsung main cam with PDAF and EIS paired with an 8MP f/2.2 120-degree ultra-wide secondary camera, a 2MP f/2.4 2cm macro camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth camera.

A50s, on the other hand, is packed with a 48MP f/2.0 primary camera, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide secondary camera, and a 5MP f/2.2 depth camera.

For selfies, Redmi Note 8 has a 13 f/2.0 shooter while A50s packs a massive 32MP f/2.0 camera.

Verdict

My pick for the main cameras is the Redmi Note 8 as it has the truer colors and it can deliver better night shots.

For selfies and videos, the A50s is the better camera phone for me.

But overall, to answer the question we stated earlier, yes the Redmi Note 8 can compete at half the price.

It is that good for the PHP 7,990 starting price.
