A few days ago, OPPO launched the Reno3 phones and it is no secret that the pricier Reno3 Pro is the phone with a fresher design, smoother display, and more promising camera hardware. But, its lower-end sibling could give it a run for its money based on speed.

MediaTek vs Qualcomm mid-range edition

According to on an AnTuTu test shared on China's Weibo site, the Reno3 5G equipped with MediaTek's new Dimensity 1000L is faster than the Reno3 Pro 5G with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chip.

Reno3 5G got an impressive score of 337,669. Reno3 Pro 5G's score is also quite good, but it is lower at 320,822.

The clear advantage of the Reno3 with MediaTek chip is its higher CPU and GPU score. Memory score is about the same and the UX score advantage goes to Qualcomm.

I find this interesting as usually, Qualcomm Snapdragon mid-range chips have higher (faster) scores than its MediaTek counterpart. But after the launch of the Helio G90T, this is the second straight time that MediaTek is getting the better of Qualcomm.

It could be a good sign as MediaTek is getting more and more competitive for less. If the trend will continue, Qualcomm could be forced to match or beat whatever MediaTek is doing or MediaTek might eat a chunk of its market share.

Going back to the Reno3 phones, speed is not everything. If you want a phone with a more stunning-looking 90Hz 3D curved AMOLED screen with punch-hole selfie cameras and more camera hardware with up to 20x zoom, the Reno3 Pro 5G could still be the phone to get.
