AppGallery on Huawei P40 Pro and MatePad Pro |
As expected, the tech giant has a way to weather the storm, the Huawei Mobile Services including the AppGallery.
What is AppGallery?
AppGallery is the company's very own app marketplace similar to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Globally, it was first introduced with the Huawei P20 series back in 2018. But in 2019, thanks to a HUGE USD 1B investment, the company has ramped up its development.AppGallery first look |
The result? 1.07 million developers have registered to Huawei to ensure more apps will be available for its users.
Now, it is the world's 3rd largest app market and it is steadily and quickly growing. It is found on modern Huawei Android phones and tablets such as the Huawei Mate 30 series, Mate Xs, P40 series, and the MatePad Pro.
The AppGallery comes with plenty of categories to choose from |
Since then, the company was able to add a lot of essential apps in 18 different categories. It includes Games, Business, Communication, Finance, Kids, Media and entertainment, Personalized themes, Shopping, Tools, Books and references, Cars, Education, Food and drink, Lifestyle and convenience, Navigation, Photography, Sports and health, and Travel and accommodation.
Even local apps such as PayMaya, GCash, Booky, GMA, ABS-CBN, CNN, SSS, OWTO, Philippine Airlines, and more are now available at the AppGallery.
Moreover, Huawei has recently improved its security by adding a four-layer threat detection for your peace of mind. This ensures all user data is contained within the device and every app installation is screened for threats without exemption.
It features strict security detection such as malicious behavior detection, privacy check, security vulnerability scanning, and the manual real-name security check.
Time to time, Huawei is giving its users a chance to win prizes by using the AppGallery as well.
And of course, we are using it. Now, let's check some of my personal top apps found on the Huawei AppGallery. Read on.

Entertainment
Asphalt 9 |
I don't normally play games, but when I do I want to keep myself entertained. Playing an adrenaline-pumping racing game is one of them. I downloaded the Asphalt 9 is one of the most exciting games with crispy graphics out there.
Viu |
If I just want to binge-watch K-dramas, I go to Viu as it allows me to stream some of the most popular Asian content for FREE with a good quality definition. Here I was able to stream trending Korean Dramas such as A World of Married Couple, When the Weather is Fine, Dr. Romantic 2, Memorist, and more!
I enjoy watching the most with the MatePad Pro as it has a big and crisp display as well as high-quality speakers.
Wattpad |
If I want to read, I go to Wattpad. To recall, Wattpad has plenty of user-generated stories in different genres, including classics, general fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fan-fiction, spiritual, humor, and more.
WeSing |
If I want to sing on my phone Karaoke-style, I use WeSing. This is the app that I use when I just want to relax, sing to the tune of my favorite songs, do a duet with a friend that also loves to sing, and to discover new beautiful voices.
TiKTok |
If I just want to watch highly entertaining and funny videos or share your own funny clips, TikTok is the key. This is one of the most trending apps in the world. It is a must-have to keep yourself up to date with the latest trends.
MIX |
If I want to play around with my photos, I use MIX. It's an app that can add artistic filters and even manipulate the background of your surroundings. It is a nice and enjoyable app to have.
Leisure
GMA News |
Reading news articles will not only keep you entertained, but it will also feed your mind with the latest news in the country and around the world. In short, it will allow you to stay fully informed. That's why I'm glad that there's GMA News in the AppGallery.
Concepts |
The Concepts app is a nice sketch and design app for those who have artistic minds. This app allowed me to sketch using the MatePad Pro with ease. It also has plenty of tools and modes to try.
Home Workout - No Equipment |
Of course, we have to take care of our health as well. Working out is one way to do that. Try the Home Workout - No Equipment app. It's fun and easy to follow even if you don't have gym equipment at home.
Lazada |
I was also able to download Shopee at the AppGallery out there. Actually, I'm torn between Shopee and Lazada that's why I use both. If the item I need is at Lazada and it is cheaper there, I shop at Lazada. If it is more affordable, with FREE shipping, and available at Shopee, I go for Shopee.
Booky |
I guess I do not need to explain this app. I love to eat and this is the app where I search for the next restaurant to try and reserve. It also has the Booky Prime mark that indicates that the restaurant serves good tasting dishes. Most of the time, it is accurate.
FoodPanda |
If you want to order good food from restaurants in the comfort of your home, try FoodPanda. I use this to order good food from nearby restaurants since most of us cannot go outside of the house at this point in time.
For me, this is a must-have app, especially during the ongoing quarantine season.
Travel, delivery
HERE WeGo |
OWTO |
When traveling around the Metro, I often use OWTO. I still use Grab, but I prefer this ride-hailing app as offers cheaper rates most of the time. During rush hours, it is easier to book using OWTO based on my experience as well.
LBC |
LBC is one of the country's most trusted courier, cargo, and logistics service providers. It is nice to have this app in case you need to deliver something.
Banking
Metrobank |
I'm more of a Metrobank user and I like that it is now available at Huawei's app store. Apart from Metrobank, Huawei has plenty of other local banking apps such as BDO and Union Bank.
GCash |
Those who like using prepaid credit cards to buy load, send money, pay bills, and more may download GCash or PayMaya.
PayMaya |
Both apps can even allow you to shop and book online, send money pay via QR code, and more.
Personally, I use both as they are equally capable and easy to use. I also like that there are rebates (cashback) in several transactions.
Work and communication
Viber |
Messenger Lite Pro |
Work is life and we use communication apps all the time. AppGallery has WeChat, Viber, and a lot of other messaging apps to choose from. A lot of my clients are using Viber. So, most of the time, I use Viber.
SHAREit |
Most of the time, I use Huawei Share as most in my work circle are already using Huawei. But, if he or she is still using Apple or other Android devices, the SHAREit app is a nice tool that can let you swiftly and easily transfer files, apps, movies, and more.
AnTuTu |
AnTuTu is the world's most popular smartphone benchmarking app and it is widely used by most tech reviewers in the world to measure and compare the performance of mobile devices.
Sadly, it is not available anymore at the Google Play Store so I always install the AppGallery on the non-Apple phones that I am testing to download this app.
That's it, these are some of my most used apps that I downloaded via AppGallery. These are the apps that I normally use to keep myself entertained, play games, communicate with ease, grab food online, help me with my chores/work, and more.
Quick thoughts
Like what we mentioned before, Huawei AppGallery is steadily growing and that's good news to a lot of those who are using and planning to switch to a Huawei device.Apart from the given trendy design, capable specs, and class-leading cameras of its devices, Huawei devices are now equipped with its OWN app market with plenty of apps, improved security options, rewards, and more.
The AppGallery allowed me to download plenty of useful apps for both work and play.
So far, I like what I am seeing and this trend will likely continue due to Huawei's strong commitment to constantly innovate.
