Despite being one of the key figures in the development of 5G, China-based tech giant HUAWEI was barred from accessing the said tech.

To recap, the US government placed the company on its "entity list" due to "spying" allegations which prevented the company from accessing tech with US tech without a special license.

The result? Apart from not having Google out of the box, modern HUAWEI smartphones have no 5G. The last flagship of the company with 5G is the Mate 40 Pro of 2020.

Even the new HUAWEI P60 Pro (PHP 58,999 starting price) with a supposedly 5G-ready Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor only has 4G.

However, this might change soon.

5G on future HUAWEI smartphones?

Alleged reports from China claimed that some industry suppliers said that the United States has allowed Qualcomm to sell HUAWEI 5G chips.

The report said that the move was made to help Qualcomm with more sales.

If this news is true, having 5G on its mobile devices will increase the competitiveness of its future releases further.

The rumored device that might ship with a 5G-ready Qualcomm chip is the Mate 60 Series in the second half of the year.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment as HUAWEI has not released an official statement yet.

For now, let's take this "news" with a grain of salt.
