The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is now official!

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built on 4nm lithography and uses 8 cores comprising of 1x 3.3GHz Cortex X4 main core + 5x performance cores at 3.2GHz + 2 efficiency cores at 2.3GHz. Qualcomm promises that it can deliver 30 percent faster and 20 percent more efficient versus the SD8G2.

It supports LPDDR5X RAM up to 4800MHz and up to 24GB. While the chip also supports WiFi 7 up to 6GHz frequency and 2.4GHz/5GHz. The chip includes the X75 5G modem with mmWave and sub-6 GHz antennas.

One of the main highlights will be the AI. Qualcomm says that its AI Engine supports multi-modal generative AI models and uses popular large language models for speech detection. The chip can process up to 20 tokens per second for instant AI assistant responses. The chipmaker also mentioned that the SD8G3 has the fastest stable diffusion which can produce an image in a split second.

On the other hand, the Qualcomm Sensing Hug can securely access users' personal information like preferred activities, fitness status, and location to provide an efficient AI assistant response.

Again Qualcomm claims that its NPI is 98 percent faster and offers a 40 percent boost in performance per watt for continuous AI activities.

When it comes to GPU, this is 25 percent faster and 25 percent more power efficient and can deliver 40 percent improved Ray Tracing.

This can also support console-level 240 frames per second on displays while the Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 can generate frames for smoother playback and there's also the Unreal Engine 5.2.

Meanwhile, the new flagship chip can produce 24-bit 96 kHz lossless audio over Bluetooth. A good news for every audiophile out there.

Finally, fans can expect the devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to hit the market soon. Among those devices, the first one will be the Xiaomi 14 Series which is slated to be announced on October 26 (tomorrow). Other partners of Qualcomm will be ASUS, HONOR, iQOO, Meizu, Nio, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, vivo, and ZTE.
