According to a translated report by CNMO, HUAWEI recently clarified what will happen to its products’ support for APK files after it unveiled it latest operating system.
HUAWEI said that there is no plan to use HarmonyOS for overseas mobile phones, and overseas consumers can continue to use Huawei mobile phones equipped with EMUI version, the report said.
GSMArena said its also has an official confirmation that HUAWEI will keep using EMUI for its overseas units "until it is absolutely confident that customers will be ready to accept the move to HarmonyOS."
HUAWEI said it will "continue to increase its support for developers around the world". The company has developed a community of app developers working on making sure Android apps from third-party stores are working properly on its Google-less phones.
HarmonyOS Next was unveiled early November. One of the major changes here is the removal of the Android apk support. This means that HarmonyOS Next won't be able to install Android apps or read Android code.
The preview of the new OS is expected early 2024.
