TECNO unveils DeepSeek R1 support for devices

Just like Infinix, another brand under Transsion will adopt DeepSeek R1 as its AI for their smartphone products.

A better AI partner?

Previously, TECNO utilized Google Gemini for its Ella AI system. Now, the brand will transition to using DeepSeek as its AI partner.

The brand did not mention why there's a sudden change although the obvious reason could be that they both originate from China which also translates to reduced operational costs.

DeepSeek R1 in particular has made waves in the past few months because of its capability to match the giants in the AI industry like OpenAI's Chat GPT, Google's Gemini, or Meta AI.

Consequently, DeepSeek is capable of performing fast response, contextual understanding, multi-modal AI, and obviously lower costs.

Below are the AI features to expect on TECNO devices in partnership with TECNO:

  • AI assistant - An assistant you can converse with, ask queries, and provide answers with fast response and accuracy.
  • AI translate - The device can provide precise translation in real time for seamless communication between different languages.
  • Productivity tools - Users will be able to instantly summarize text, get suggestions from AI, and perform voice commands for more efficient work on the go.
  • AI-Optimized Cameras -  This will bring improve low-light performance more accurate auto adjustments, and improved computational photography.

Currently, there have been four mobile brands that've made a switch to DeepSeek. That includes TECNO, Infinix, HONOR and HUAWEI.

Finally, we will see TECNO debut DeepSeek AI in the upcoming CAMON 40 Series at MWC 2025.
