Xiaomi 17 goes official in China

Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi 17 in China, marking a sequential jump from its predecessor by omitting the "16" generation designation. The device is among the first to feature the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform.

The phone weighs 191 grams and will be available in four color variants: Black, Pink, White, and Bluie. It also features a triple IP rating: IP66/68/69 as protection against dust and water.

The Xiaomi 17 is equipped with a 6.3-inch 12-bit flat OLED featuring ultra-thin 1.18mm bezels. It has a 1.5K resolution, 1-120Hz VRR, 3,500 nits peak brightness, 1920Hz PWM dimming, and is protected by Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass.

The features

Performance is driven by the new 4.6GHz 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with 12GB/16GB LPDDR5X RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB UFS 3.1 storage.

It is also supported by a new 3D ring cold pump cooling system, stated to be three times more efficient than conventional vapor chambers, and is designed to maintain performance during extended use.

A 7,000mAh battery is housed within the compact form factor. Xiaomi claims this provides over 12 hours of short-video playback, a duration said to exceed that of an iPhone 17 when paired with a 5,000mAh magnetic power bank.

The rear camera system consists of a 50MP 1/1.31-inch Light Hunter 950 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera. For selfies, it uses a 50MP front-facing sensor.

Other features are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, 4x microphones, and Hi-Res audio certification.

Connectivity features are WiFi 7, 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS (L1+L5) Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, NavIC, NFC.

Standard connectivity options are included, consistent with a modern flagship device.

Lastly, the phone ships with the latest HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 out of the box.
