Counterpoint: Xiaomi beats Apple in global sales in August 2024, claims number 2 spot
Counterpoint Research released its data for August 2024 global smartphone sales where Xiaomi gained 2nd spot overtaking Apple.
In August, Xiaomi's graph for shipment numbers remained still however Apple's seasonal dip in sales prior to the iPhone 16 Series launch played a part that led to its reduced market share.
Meanwhile, Counterpoint Research mentioned that Xiaomi is quickly evolving in 2024 gaining 22 percent year-over-year growth in sales volume. The researcher says that Redmi 13 and Note 13 Series where the whole reason behind this, particularly in markets like India, SEA, Latin America, Middle East and Africa regions.

Apart from the entry-level and Mid-range segment, Counterpoint Research also claimed Xiaomi has strong performance in the premium category such as the foldable and ultra variants.
The number 1 spot remains for Samsung, and then Apple gets the number 3 position. The remaining two for the top five ranks weren't mentioned by the research firm.
Xiaomi capturing the #2 spot is symbolic of a more significant trend in the global smartphone market. As devices edge closer to each other in terms of technology and price, competition has never been higher among the top brands. With new form factors (foldables) and GenAI features helping brands differentiate their offerings, device ecosystem, product design, and marketing strategy and research remain as important as ever, as evidenced by Xiaomi’s recent surge, said Counterpoint Research
