Apple iPad Pro updated versions announced with M2 and Apple Pencil hover!

Apart from the entry-level iPad, Apple also announced upgraded iPad Pro 12.9 and 11-inch models both of which come with the latest chip.

Apple's iPad Pro is powered by an M2 chipset!

The main highlight will be the new M2 processor which we've seen on the new MacBooks released in mid-2022. The new system on a chip uses eight cores for the CPU, ten cores for GPU, and sixteen cores for Neural Engine to handle AI stuff and machine learning.

They still have the same body size and dimensions as well as the Silver and Space Gray color options.

Same big display!

The 11-inch uses Liquid Retina screen with a 2388 x 1668 resolution with ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate, P3 wide color gamut, oleophobic coating, anti-reflective coating, and up 600 nits peak brightness.

On the other hand, the 12.6-inch variant will have a Liquid Retina XDR display, ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate, True Tone, P3 wide color gamut, oleophobic coating, anti-reflective coating, and up to 1600 nits peak brightness.

Both of them support 2nd gen Apple Pencil Hover which allows the stylus to detect up 12mm above the screen, and more functionality within the apps available in either first-party or third-party applications.

The M2 chip is partnered with 8GB RAM for 128GB,256GB, and 512GB models, while the 16GB RAM option comes alongside the 1TB or 2TB storage.

For battery, 11-inch has a 28.65WHr size, and the bigger display gets 40.88WHr. Apple says both models should have 10 hours of web surfing or video streaming. The charging speeds remain the same as well with 20W alongside the USB-C port.

Their cameras weren't changed either which are the 12MP main camera + 10 MP ultrawide and 12MP 122-degree ultrawide for selfies. However, with the new M2 chip, it will have improvements software-wise such as 3x faster when recording high-quality videos using the ProRes Codec. Besides this, Smart HDR 3 and Smart HDR 4 are upgrades for the still camera features.

External display support

Connectivity features were also improved to WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G data connection for cellular models and Thunderbolt 3 support for external displays.

Software-wise, both of them run iPadOS 16 out of the box.
