HUAWEI will use its rumored self-developed camera sensor on the upcoming P70?

Last month, the same tipster claimed that HUAWEI has been developing its own CMOS image sensor from wafer to chip to be more self-reliant than ever and avoid US sanctions.

The tipster now added that the other reason behind this is that HUAWEI and Sony have not renewed their contract for new supplies. Allegedly, the company's image sensor stockpile has been depleted as well.

To those who do not know, Sony is a long-term mobile camera sensor supplier of the Chinese tech giant for making its powerful camera phones.

But, HUAWEI has likely had enough time to prepare for this and there is a good chance that they won't mess it up the dominance of its P Series in the global mobile camera quality is on the line.

If true, HUAWEI could also customize the sensor and tune it better with its own ISP and chip.

At the moment, the highest-ranking camera phone at the DxOMark laboratory is still the HUAWEI P60 Pro despite being older by several months compared with the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The alleged P70 flagship is expected to go official in the first half of 2024.

The company has yet to confirm this report though and as usual, let's take rumors with a grain of salt.

There are no other details about it at the moment as well.

What do you guys think?
